Ensuring a baby's nourishment with ease and effectiveness stands as a paramount concern in the early days of a newborn's life and holds significant value for a new mother. Typically, a frenum serves as a tethering band that unites two sections of soft tissue. However, there are instances where this band attaches too tightly or too low, leading to a condition referred to as either Tongue-Tie or Lip-Tie. Such conditions can pose a threat to the precious breastfeeding bond between a mother and her infant. When the frenum is situated too low or taut, it can constrict movement much like extra skin can limit the mobility of webbed fingers. Picture how a surgical release of webbed tissue can liberate fingers and enhance their functionality. A frenectomy procedure similarly grants a baby the freedom to use their lip and tongue unrestricted, ultimately promoting an efficient, effective, and comfortable feeding experience.

Sleep apnea is a common and potentially serious sleep disorder characterized by interruptions in breathing during sleep. These pauses in breathing can last for seconds or longer and often lead to reduced oxygen intake, fragmented sleep, and various health problems.
Snoring, while not as severe as sleep apnea, can still disrupt your sleep and impact your overall well-being. It can also disturb your bed partner's sleep, causing additional stress on relationships.
Dental sleep appliances, also known as Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs), are an effective and non-invasive alternative to the traditional Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine for sleep apnea treatment. These custom-made devices are designed to reposition your lower jaw slightly forward, which helps to keep your airway open during sleep.

Good oral hygiene should always be practiced since the loss of a single tooth can have major impact upon your oral health and appearance. Although dentists will use every measure to prevent tooth loss, there are still some occasions when a tooth may need to be extracted. A tooth may need to be extracted if the following occurs: 1) Severe decay 2) Advanced periodontal disease 3) Infection or abscess 4) Orthodontic correction 5) Malpositioned teeth 6) Fractured teeth or roots 7)
8) Impacted teeth
After careful examination and treatment, the dentist may advise to have a tooth extracted. Before a tooth is removed, the dentist will take an x-ray in order to understand the shape and position of the tooth and surrounding bone. Based on the degree of difficulty, we may refer you to a specialist called an oral surgeon. A certain amount of pain and discomfort is to be expected following an extraction, which can be minimized with a pain killer and ice packs applied to the face for 15 minutes at a time. After a routine extraction, discomfort should lessen within three days to two weeks. If you have prolonged or severe pain, swelling, bleeding or fever, call our office immediately.

A dental implant is an ideal tooth restoration for people who are missing one or more teeth as a result of injury, periodontal disease, or any other reason. A dental implant is a metal post that is surgically positioned into the jaw. Once in place and bone surrounding the implant has had time to heal, a replacement tooth is attached to the post. While implants are typically more expensive than other methods of tooth replacement, they provide superior benefits. Implants are stronger than natural teeth and generally last up to 20 years or more. They are also a more favorable approach than bridgework since they do not depend on neighboring teeth for support. To receive implants, you need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. You must also be committed to excellent oral hygiene and regular dental visits as these are critical to the long-term success of dental implants.

A dental cleaning is a professional cleaning you receive from a dentist or dental hygienist. The average appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes. Cleanings should be performed every six months to prevent excessive plaque buildup. Plaque left untreated can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. A routine dental cleaning should include scaling, root planing and polishing. Scaling: This is the process of removing plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces in a variety of methods, depending on the amount of plaque and tartar. Dental hygienists traditionally perform scaling by hand. However, new and advanced technology has led to more modern methods such as electric scalers. This sophisticated tool allows dental cleanings to be performed more efficiently and in less time. To achieve best results, both electric and manual scaling methods are combined for dental cleanings. Root Planing: Root Planing is the scaling of teeth below the gumline to remove or eliminate agents which cause inflammation such as plaque, its products and calculus, thus helping to establish a periodontium that is free of disease.

When the pulp, or tooth nerve, is damaged or infected, it is important to remove the nerve by doing a root canal so the tooth can be saved. The nerve can go bad from trauma to the tooth or a deep cavity. Many believe that the root canal procedure hurts, but it really doesn’t. There can be some post-operative tenderness, but this is often not severe. You may be surprised at how easy the procedure really is! If you are experiencing a throbbing, dull ache in a tooth then you likely need a root canal. Sometimes, however, no symptoms are apparent and the person is unaware of any problem until a checkup. A root canal is then performed to clean out the infected tooth pulp, and disinfect the canals of the tooth. The only other treatment would be to extract the tooth. Once the infection is resolved, the canal(s) are filled in to prevent any further infection. Usually a core build-up and crown is recommended for restoring a tooth that has had root canal therapy.

TMJ stands for temporal-mandibular joint. Temporal, as in temple area of skull; mandibular as in mandible, or lower jaw joint as in where the head and jaw meet. Problems in this joint may be caused by a misalignment of the teeth, trauma, or excess muscle tension. Aside from the two bones that meet there, cartilage buffers them and five muscles are involved in the area. If something goes wrong a good deal of trouble can result.
Problems in this area can cause:
Headaches Earaches Trouble/soreness in opening and closing the mouth Clicking or popping of the jaw Pain in the jaw muscles Soreness in the area, sometimes extending to the face Dental treatments for the condition can include replacing missing teeth, moving teeth, adjusting the bite, filling gaps between teeth, etc. There is no one solution that is right for all cases. Sometimes a plastic mouthpiece is used to prevent clenching or grinding that is contributing to the problem. If untreated and taken to extremes, surgery may be required to repair a badly damaged joint.
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. If you have a tooth that requires a filling, the dentist will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned out cavity with a filling material. A filling also helps prevent further decay by closing off any cracks or spaces where bacteria can enter.
